Welcome to Arun Dog Training

Fun training. Serious results.

Living the Dream?

What did you dream of when you first got your dog?  Peaceful walks both on and off-lead? A calm companion at home?  A confident and happy canine friend? The reality is often different from our dreams and you may be faced with lots of conflicting advice about what to do. At Arun Dog Training, we can show you how to turn your struggles into strengths. How? By playing 3-minute games with your dog. And by the way, that does not mean your dog has to love playing with toys. So, is the training just a bit of fun, without results? Absolutely not! It’s actually based on scientific research:

“Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 REPETITIONS to create a new synapse in the brain,

- unless it is done through PLAY, in which case it takes between 10 and 20 REPETITIONS.”

Dr Karyn Purvis.

So basically, your pet will learn more effectively through play. These short games are designed to provide dogs with the brain skills (also known as concepts) needed - such as optimism, confidence, self-control, calmness and focus - to enable them to make good choices. Good choices are rewarded in the games so those choices become much more attractive to the dog and are more likely to be chosen in the future. Your dog’s brain is being reshaped. In time those choices become natural and instinctive and transfer to real-life challenges.  Fun training (for you and your dog) – serious results!

The training is positive and rewards-based.  We can show you how to prevent undesirable behaviour and show you how to reward your dog for good behaviour with the things and activities they love in a way that will boost your relationship.

Dogs of any breed, age and experience can benefit from the games-based training at Arun Dog Training.

I’m Heather Sanderson,  Founder and Trainer of Arun Dog Training. My family and I share our lives with Bella, an Irish setter x Border Collie whom we re-homed at 4 months old. I have been to several different training classes with Bella, with some success and some rather embarrassing moments too. Once, early on in our training journey at an obedience class, Bella jumped onto a windowsill to steal the teacher’s bag of liver sausage! Sharing our lives with Bella has presented lots of challenges – but this is how I discovered my passion for dog training.

The best progress we have made in our training journey so far has been made since I discovered games-based concept training.  In 2017 I decided I wanted to share this with other people and began my course to become a Pro Dog Trainer. My tutors were Tom Mitchell (qualified vet behaviourist), and Lauren Langman (competitor in agility for Team GB). Together they run the highly successful training company, Absolute Dogs, supporting students and Pro Dog Trainers worldwide.

We are so very pleased at the huge difference in our girl, it helped us tremendously that the classes are small and calm and you work at your own pace and they are enjoyable and fun. Every game has such a high training function but they are games and that is what makes this so good and such fun,I cannot praise Heather or Arun Dog Training enough ...Thank You

Arun dog training was very helpful for me with my cocker spaniel puppy. I fully recommend Heather and the games she has taught us have helped so much

I have got a rescue dog named Dillon. After 3 months of having him, I made the decision to help him. He was extremely anxious, also nervous of the outside world, even the garden. Then we found the Amazing Heather, do not hesitate using this Lady, we would not be where we are now, without her. Dillon is now very happy in the garden, car, walks, and absolutely still loves his training games. We had Heather on a 1-1 basis, but if you need help book into her classes, you also get lots of support from her. do not hesitate you will not be disappointed. Thank you Heather for helping us with our Dillon.
