January Night Noise

We were wondering why Bella, who is usually quiet at night, had woken us with barking a couple of nights running. This week I visited a client who told me that their dog had also been barking more at night and they believed it could be because it is fox mating season. Some online research shows they are probably right. Apparently foxes breed just once a year. The mating season begins in January when the screeching mating cries can be heard during the night and the early hours. Us humans had slept through it, but Bella’s more sensitive ears don’t miss much! Mystery solved.
